A Kenyan lawyer has filed a petition with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, suggesting that the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ was unlawful, and The State of Israel among others should be held responsible.

Dola Indidis, a lawyer and former spokesman of the Kenyan Judiciary is reportedly attempting to sue Tiberius (Emperor of Rome 42 BC-37AD), Pontius Pilate, a selection of Jewish elders, King Herod, the Republic of Italy and the State of Israel.

?Evidence today is on record in the Bible, and you cannot discredit the Bible,? Indidis said. Even though those he suggests should have been convicted during the original trial have not been alive for more than 2000 years, Indidis insists that the government for whom they acted can and should still be held responsible. ?I filed the case because it?s my duty to uphold the dignity of Jesus and I have gone to the ICJ to seek justice for the man from Nazareth.

His selective and malicious prosecution violated his human rights through judicial misconduct, abuse of office, bias and prejudice,? he said Indidis apparently named the states of Italy and Israel in the lawsuit because upon the attainment of independence, the two states incorporated the laws of the Roman Empire that were in force at the time of the Crucifixion.

He is challenging the mode of questioning used during Jesus? trial, prosecution, hearing and sentencing; the form of punishment meted out on him while undergoing judicial proceedings and the substance of the information used to convict him.

The case was first filed in the High Court in Nairobi, but was rejected. Indidis then applied to have it heard at the ICJ, which is rumoured to have constituted a pre-trial panel to consider the case.

When asked about the case, however, a spokesperson for the ICJ said, ?The ICJ has no jurisdiction for such a case. The ICJ settles disputes between states. It is not even theoretically possible for us to consider this case.?

Indidis says he wants to establish what crime Jesus was charged with and prays that the court decides ?that the proceedings before the Roman courts were a nullity in law, for they did not conform to the rule of law at the material time and any time thereafter.?

?Some of those present spat in his face, struck him with their fists, slapped him, taunted him, and pronounced him worthy of death,? Indidis argues. When Jesus died, Indidis insists, he was not given an opportunity to be heard.

?I am suing as a friend,? he said. Indidis insisted on the validity of his case, saying ?I know with a matter of fact and truth we have a good case with a high probability of success and I hope it is done in my lifetime.?

Will You Look More Attractive After Plastic Surgery? - Health News ...

THURSDAY, Aug. 1 (HealthDay News) ? Facial plastic surgery may turn back the hands of time, but new research suggests it may not, alas, boost attractiveness.

For this small study, 50 strangers were asked to guess the age and subjectively rank the attractiveness of 49 patients after viewing photos of them either before or after facial plastic surgery.

The bottom-line: Surgical intervention shaved a few years off perceived age but did almost nothing to boost patients? overall attractiveness.

What?s at issue is patients? expectations, said study lead author Dr. Joshua Zimm, an attending surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Institute of North Shore-LIJ Health System in New York City.

?When we?re doing this kind of surgery I?m telling patients that they?ll look fresher, more energetic and less tired, and we have some data in the literature that indicates you will look younger, as we found,? Zimm said. ?But clearly I cannot say that they will look more attractive.?

He emphasized, however, that the findings represent the work of just one surgeon and that the study design had limitations. ?This is not the final word on the subject,? Zimm said.

?But certainly I think you can take away from this that if you?re looking to have aesthetic facial surgery to look younger, we?ve shown that you will,? he said. ?Beyond that ? it is not clear that everyone will definitely look more attractive.?

Zimm and his colleagues discussed their findings in the Aug. 1 online edition of the journal JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery.

The team focused on clients at a Toronto private-practice facility who had one or more of the following procedures between 2006 and 2010: face lift, neck lift, upper or lower eyelid lift, and brow-lift. The patients ranged from 42 to 73 years old.

Facial photos were taken before surgery and over a six-month follow-up period post-surgery. Makeup and jewelry were banned from the photo sessions, as were additional cosmetic procedures (such as Botox injections or laser skin resurfacing) between the before-and-after photo sessions.

The raters saw either pre-surgery or post-surgery photos of a patient, but never both. Without knowing the purpose of the study, they were asked to estimate the patient?s age and to rate their attractiveness on a scale of 1 to 10. They were given no criteria for determining attractiveness so as not to influence their thinking.

Although patients were deemed to look three years younger on average after plastic surgery, any bump in attractiveness was deemed statistically insignificant.

Zimm took pains to note that the findings do not reflect a real-world context, in which patients? relatives and acquaintances will have a very clear frame of reference for assessing both age and beauty. He also suggested that a much larger study would be needed to nail down the impact of facial plastic surgery.

What?s more, asking raters to assess age and attractiveness at the same time might have created a ?kind of subconscious attractiveness bias,? Zimm said.

Still, ?at the end of the day the goal is to make people happy, so we have to know what?s possible in order to determine if any particular patient is someone I can help,? he said.

But a Chicago plastic surgeon said the study is meaningless in that regard.

?Certainly when I see a new patient I have to decide if what the patient is after is achievable or even realistic,? said Dr. Laurie Casas, a senior clinician educator at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. ?And it?s a very complex process because the perception of beauty has to be evaluated by both the surgeon and the patient.?

The end game is that they want to look more attractive, but this study doesn?t get me anywhere with that process because it?s impossible to make any sense out of the data,? Casas said.

Without a common understanding of what a 1-to-10 attractiveness score actually means, there?s no frame of reference, she said. ?It?s totally subjective, so the results have no meaning,? she said.

Well, here?s a lesson for anyone testing out an unannounced phone?s and not wanting anyone to know about it: make sure that phone?s reflection isn?t visible in the very picture it takes! A picture uploaded on Picasa with an SM-N9005 (the LTE model of the Galaxy Note III) shows what is a squarish device, visible through the reflection the glass of another phone caused while the photo was being taken.

Of course, this is by no means the final shape of the Note III, as the actual design is cleverly hidden by Samsung by using cases and making different prototypes, but with such a flurry of leaks that involve the Galaxy Note III, not to mention today?s report that the phone will be unveiled on September 4, we can rest assured that it is certainly Samsung?s next phablet we?re looking at here.

Tunisian union gives government one week to step down

TUNIS (Reuters) - Tunisia's powerful union federation said on Friday that the embattled Islamist-led government had one week to reach a deal for creating a new technocrat government, otherwise it will be "forced to consider" other options.

The 600,000-strong Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) has been trying to mediate between the ruling Ennahda party and the secular opposition, which is demanding the government's ouster as well as the dissolution of a transitional Constituent Assembly that is only weeks away from completing the country's new draft constitution.

Tensions have been rising in Tunisia since the assassination last week of a leftist politician, the second to be slain in six months. Political tensions, along with an outburst of clashes between the army and militants near the Algerian border, risk disrupting the democratic political transition that began after Tunisians toppled an autocratic president in 2011.

The UGTT, seen as being closer to the opposition, has offered a compromise that would put a new technocrat government in place but preserve the Assembly. The transitional body would, however, be put on a sped-up time scale for completing the constitution and the country's new election laws.

"(We) will continue to hold talks and if our demands of changing the government and implementing a time frame for the Constituent Assembly, then we will have other options that we will be forced to consider," the UGTT's deputy leader, Bou Ali Mbarki, told local Nesma TV, without giving further details.

The UGTT is one of the most powerful political and economic forces in Tunisia. A single day of strikes last week cost the country millions of dollars and plunged its currency to a historical low against the dollar.

Despite efforts to reach a deal, both sides appeared to harden their stance on Thursday. They have called for rival "million-man" marches over the weekend.

Ennahda, a moderate Islamist party, has refused to remove the prime minister under any new deal. Opposition figures remain equally recalcitrant about relinquishing their demand to dissolve the Assembly.

Tunisia's successful 2011 uprising set off a wave of revolts across the region. Once upheld as a model of transition among troubled "Arab Spring" states, Tunisia now risks being plunged into political turmoil and broader instability.

Tunisian troops clashed with militants near the Algerian border late on Thursday, the second round of fighting this week.

Two days ago, militants ambushed and killed eight soldiers near the Algerian border, and two improvised bombs have been set off in Tunis, the first time the capital has seen such attacks, although no one was hurt.

Political tensions have also sparked violence since the opposition began mobilizing large protests in several towns.

South of the capital, pro- and anti-government protesters threw rocks at each other and broke into fist fights, wounding three people, a security source said.
